Reflection and searching for deep meaning are not always your friend.
A former professor of President Obama, considered his experience with Barry Obama, the student. This professor claimed that Obama's greatest asset and undeniably his greatest obstacle was his ability to see from many diverse perspectives and the related pros and cons of a situation. Perhaps too many perspectives. This often hampered college Obama's decisiveness.
I am a more effective leader, teacher, wife, parent when making decisions amidst an action-oriented environment. Analysis paralysis can be hidden under labels like : planning, checking into it, doing research, weighing my options, blah, blah and BLAH. Procrastination. One

How often do we agonize over a decision, research exhaustively searching for a clarity that does not exist? How often do we put off a task or project because we can't possibly figure out how to produce the exquisite product that lives in your mind's eye? How often do we miss an opportunity because we just couldn't quiet our insecure self-talk, and say yes?
We are not idle creatures, at our best while in a constant state of reflection. We are best when engaged in meaningful work, being part of something bigger than ourselves and only saying 'no' to things in life when having a really good reason to do so.
The existence of Blue Zones, would support this theory. These geographic areas on the planet that have exceedingly high longevity rates. A common factor discovered for these blue zones is an absence of the concept of retirement. Everyone is engaged, needed and doing life. Who decided it would be good to give you an endless weekend for 20-30 years of your life would be a good plan?
I am starting to believe that retirement is a construct created by Disneyworld, AARP and the Home Shopping Network. You're retired! Come see us! Stay tuned for our next items (limited in number and offering) while we make you a complimentary Trip-Tik for your next road trip to Anaheim...! Wait. Didn't AAA make trip-tiks in the 80's and early 90's? That's not AARP.... dang. So many acronyms... so little memory.
Reflection and introspection are best prescribed in limited doses, just like other missions into potentially hostile, unstable territories.
